Charles (Chuck) Rotondo is the Northeast Technical Director for the Block Design Collective. A New Jersey native, Chuck earned his degree in accounting from the University of Maryland before beginning a hands-on career in construction. He started as a carpenter and later became a firm owner, gaining deep experience in how projects move from design intent to jobsite execution while developing strong working relationships with architects, contractors, and industry partners throughout the Northeast.
In his current role, Chuck works closely with architects, engineers, and contractors to support constructable design solutions and strengthen the role of concrete masonry in the built environment, offering practical guidance tailored to the demands of building in the Northeast.
The Block Design Collective (BDC) is a national design assistance program focused on the use of concrete masonry units (CMU) in building projects. The program supports architects, engineers, and other design professionals by providing technical guidance throughout various stages of design and documentation.
BDC offers project-specific assistance at no cost and without obligation. Services include support with code compliance questions, wall system selection, structural and performance considerations, detailing, constructability review, and specification guidance. Assistance is provided by regional technical directors with masonry design experience.
In addition to direct project support, BDC provides access to educational resources, technical materials, and design tools through the Block Learning Hub. These resources are intended to support informed evaluation and effective integration of concrete masonry systems in a range of project types.
